I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH
THIS CAL 29 IS ABSOLUTELY THE NICEST BOAT THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY 21 YEARS IN THE BOATING WORLD. I ALSO WOULD LIKE TO ADD IT'S PROBABLY THE NICEST IN THE WORLD. FIRST CLASS PRIDE OF OWNERSHIP.
OWNER HAD A SURVEY ON THE BOAT IN 2015. SOME OF THE INFORMATION IS BELOW.
This particular design which came about in the late '60's early '70's is part of a whole genre of that era where you find the Alberg 30, the Tartan 30, the Pearsons and the Cal 30 etc. In this surveyor's opinion the prototype would be out of England - they have that British look that was popular at the time and derivative of wooden boats which gives these vessels their classic lines.
This particular vessel is as excellent an example of the type as one is likely to find.
The last two owners have put somewhere near $200,000.00 into this boat and it shows - the boat surveys as in "like new" condition throughout - even the bilges are perfectly clean.
All this of course makes placing a value on the vessel extremely difficult. As we all know one rarely gets out what one puts in. Often over the years I have heard my clients complain that they have put in a new engine and parts and labor combined equaled more than the boat was worth. The problem is that the vessel is expected to have a functioning engine so you are not rewarded for that - you may get a percentage maybe even as good as half - which may be added to the market value but typically the market value is based on the vessel being not necessarily new or perfect but fully functioning.
I have spent a lot of time over the years in ruminating on this particular problem which arises quite often these days now that we are finding that fiberglass boats are surviving and will be doing so for some time to come.
The present cost of maintenance/refit/restoration is so large compared to what is seen as the intrinsic value of the vessel that it is difficult to establish a realistic well-founded market value. This factor combined with the recent glut of fiberglass boats on the market makes it doubly difficult to come up with a valuation that will satisfy everybody therefore the bottom line is that the market value of the boat is what someone is willing to pay for it.

Nothing was found to impair the structural integrity of this vessel nor was anything found that would prevent it from functioning within its design parameters.
If this vessel continues to be maintained in the manner to which it is accustomed it should represent a sound investment as well as a suitable insurance risk for all waters with a reasonably experienced crew aboard.

This report constitutes the surveyor's opinion of the condition of the vessel, based on nondestructive examination of all accessible parts of the hull and rig, formed to the best of his ability given the conditions at the time of the inspection.
